Gravesend’s Phoebe Cumiskey was due to take on Lucielle Verhoef in Hastings on Saturday

A world kickboxing title bout, featuring a promising fighter from Gravesend, is under threat after the event’s sponsor pulled out.

Phoebe ‘The Mighty Atom’ Cumiskey was due to take on Dutch prodigy, Lucielle Verhoef, in Hastings on Saturday, but with organisers now £1,000 down - needed to cover various costs including the opponent’s travel from the Netherlands and the belt for the winner - the fight is now set to be cancelled at the eleventh hour.

Leigh Haworth, owner and senior instructor at Star Kickboxing, based in Queen’s Farm Road, Shorne, told us: “It’s a massively prestigious fight and both girls have trained their butts off for it.

“Phoebe has already won four world titles but this is the biggest fight of her career, against a girl that is massive in Europe.

“Even if we don’t get the full £1,000, hopefully we can make up the difference so we’d be grateful for any help we can get.”
