The non-league footballer is one of 18 candidates looking to secure a £250,000 investment from Lord Sugar

A cosmetics retailer from Rochester begins his journey to become Lord Sugar’s business partner tonight as The Apprentice returns to our screens.

Danny Grant, 32, who also plays non-league football for Chatham, will battle it out against 17 other candidates in a bid to ultimately win a £250,000 investment from the business magnate.

In tonight’s opening episode, the candidates are challenged with starting their own burger lines by constructing a business ethos, negotiating meat prices, cooking the food and selling it - all in one day.

Kent has featured prominently in the hit show for a number of years, with a series of previous candidates hailing from the county, while locations in Dover, Margate, Canterbury, Whitstable, Ramsgate, Ashford and Sandwich, as well as Brands Hatch in Longfield, have all been used for filming tasks.

Speaking to us last week, Mr Grant said: “I’m quite a jovial guy, so I think that will come across in the house and in the challenges.”

Our full interview with him can be read here.

The Apprentice returns to BBC One at 9pm, when one business hopeful will be fired from the contest.
