Bumper bank holiday traffic as passengers use Kent stations to take advantage of summer break

Eurostar says it is set to accomodate 142,000 passengers over the upcoming bank holiday weekend - an eight per cent rise on the same time last year.

Friday is set to be the busiest day, with more than 13,000 people heading to the continent on the high-speed service.

And perhaps unsurprisingly Paris is the destination of choice, with 24,000 Brits heading to the French capital.

Mary Walsh, director of communications for Eurostar said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming passengers on board, as they set off for the August bank holiday weekend.”

Eurostar’s main UK terminal is at St Pancras, with international stations at both Ebbsfleet and Ashford.
