The Fleet were reduced to ten men in the first half and had to come from behind to beat the Essex outfit

Ebbsfleet United secured promotion to the top tier of non-league football at the weekend with a dramatic play-off triumph over Chelmsford City.

The Fleet had agonisingly missed out on promotion via the play-offs a year ago, when they were beaten on penalties by local rivals Maidstone United on their home turf.

Fast forward 12 months, however, and Daryl McMahon’s side banished their demons, although it was far from plain sailing at Stonebridge Road on Saturday.

Anthony Cook was sent off in the first half for a late lunge before the hosts then fell behind to a Bagasan Graham strike.

However, two goals in less than five minutes late on turned the game on its head - the first coming from Sam Deering before substitute Darren McQueen snatched a winner from close range.
