The excitement leading up to the release next month of the new Harry Potter book has cast its spell over Sevenoaks, according to online book giant Amazon.
It’s the only Kent town in the top 100 list of places across the British Isles pre-ordering the eagerly anticipated final book in the series – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
But it can only just scrap into the top 50 – tumbling from 46th last week to 48th.
The list covers all UK towns and cities with a population of more than 5,000 people.
JK Rowling’s latest blockbuster hits the shelves on July 21 and is expected to become the biggest seller of the year.
The author has already promised TWO major characters will die as readers await the outcome of the tussle between the schoolboy wizard and nemesis Lord Voldemort.
Amazon’s online stores around the world have already taken more than one million pre-orders of the book – but admit they will not make a penny in profit.
The retailer is using the book as a loss-leader in order to keep customer loyalty, heavily discounting the book in order to capture sales.
More than 250,000 copies have been pre-ordered via Amazon.co.uk alone. The town still top of the pre-order charts is Wallingford in Oxfordshire.
JK Rowling has sold 325m copies of the first six books in the Potter series, charting the youngsters rise through the years at wizard school Hogwarts.
The latest movie – based on the fifth book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, opens in cinemas next month.
